On 7th July I found a couple of mines of
Phyllocnistis xenia for the second year running on young White Poplar at nearby Woodham, Bucks (last year's sighting of a mine with larva can be found
here). One of them still had an active pupa in an upperside fold at the leaf edge so I brought it home. The tiny adult emerged yesterday (wing length just under 3mm), the first time I've seen the moth itself. In the photo of the now rather dried-up leaf you can still see the "snail-trail" mine ending at the fold at bottom right.
